Kebo-keboan Ceremony
Ceremony of " Kebo-keboan" is an act of gratitude to God for the earth by Krajan Hamlet, Village Alasmalang, District Singojuruh held every 10 Syuro in Javanese calendar. This ceremony is expected to appear around the 18th century BC.
"Kebo-keboan" Ceremony is a ritual in which a man decorated like a buffalo. It represents the partner relationship between farmers and buffalo should be maintained. Besides horned, black streaks that paint the entire body of people who decorated like buffalo, is a symbol that buffalo is one of the powerful animal and is the cornerstone of Alasmalang livelihoods who are mostly a farmer.
It is said, at the time when the disaster-stricken villagers of Alasmalang brindeng or pagebluk (disease outbreaks) are prolonged. That kind of disease that really scary and difficult to get the medicine. Because, for those who have affected in the morning, then the afternoon will die, if caught in the night, then next morning would die, and so on.
In addition, in the midst of disaster, the community Alasmalang whom work as farmers mostly, their farm hit is attacked by a huge rat. As a result, crops failure.
Finally, one of the village elders who used to be called Mbah Buyut Karti invites residents to do "ruwatan" or village salvation to eliminate the plague of brindeng or pagebluk and pests that attack. Curiosly, after ruwatan was held, gradually it began to decrease pagebluk plague and eventually disappear altogether. So do the rat attacked farmers' land.
However, the outbreaks of pests and rodents pagebluk already gone, but residents still could not calm down. It is because their fields are dry and hard to plowed up due to prolonged drought. Finally, Mbah Buyut Karti recommend to use the buffalo in plowing their fields.
