Petik Laut Muncar (Pick of the sea)

In month of Muharam or syuro, in the java calender, not just a farmer, the fisherman make the ceremony to expect a blessing and salvation. The execution time of Petik Laut every years always changing because based on calendar of Qomariah or fisherman agreement. The ceremony usually held during the full moon, because the fishermen did not go to sea and the sea was high tide.

In Muncar (about 35 kilometers of Banyuwangi), the ceremony evolved after the famous Madura turnout as sailors. Not surprisingly, the ceremony is filled with tribal ornaments Madura. One of them is Sakera clothing, that is black clothes and carrying sickles as a symbol of the greatness of the brave citizens of Madura.

The Sakera clothing prepared for the ceremony and worn once, if there are other ceremonies or "Petik Laut" next year, should be made again for the sake of the sanctity of the ceremony. The Sakera officers selected a large body with a grim and forbidding appearance, and a thick mustache and a big bracelet.

The Sakera to become a safety the Ceremony. They always walk in front of the guard ceremony location offerings to the sea and citizens are scrambling to set up the boat. The elders also customary to wear Sakera with the inside of the red and white striped shirt.

For the fishermen of Muncar, "Petik Laut" is a big ceremony that should not be abandoned. The ceremony was held during the full moon, the 15th in the Javanese calendar.
