Traditional Art of Angklung
Angklung is a typical art from Banyuwangi. The performers consisted of 12 to 14 people. The musical instrument made of bamboo and has four types of performances that are Angklung Caruk, Angklung Tetak, Angklung Paglak, and Angklung Blambangan.
Angklung Caruk
The word "Caruk" is derived from the original Banyuwangi word meaning "meeting". Angklung Caruk performs two groups meet and competes for playing angklung together. There are usually three groups of spectators, the first and the second spectator group is the supporter of each Angklung performer, and the third is neutral audience.
Angklung Tetak
"Tetak" means "keeping at night". Angklung Tetak can be a tool used to help keep the night. It is famous in 1950. At the beginning, it grew up in Glagah village, and in 1974 there are had been improvements in the rhythm of Angklung Tetak.
Angklung Paglak
"Paglak" is the name of simple huts built in the fields of in nearby settlements. Paglak built from bamboo which is located for about 10 meters above the ground. For whom wants to get into the hut should climb to reach it. The function of this hut is a place to keep the rice from birds. The farmers usually keep the field while playing an Angklung musical instrument in Paglak. Therefore this art is called Angklung Paglak.
Angklung Blambangan
Angklung Blambangan is an improvisation of Angklung Caruk. There are musical instrument including "Gong" and "Gandrung".
Banyuwangi regency has an area of 5.78.250 km2. Banyuwangi is still an area of forest area. Area of forest area has reached about 183,396.34 ha or 31.72%, rice field area of about 66,152 ha or 11.44%, plantations with an area of 82,143.63 hectares or 14.21%, used as a residential area with an area of approximately 127 454 , 22 ha or 22.04%.
